Foras na Gaeilge - Colmcille Small Grants Scheme

Small grants are available for organisations to support the research and planning of joint initiatives between the language communities of Irish and Scottish Gaeilge.

Colmcille operates through grant schemes and through facilitating and initiating projects. Funding addresses the following themes: the arts, young people, heritage, learning Scottish and Irish Gaelic, partnership and community development, and research.

In Scotland Bòrd na Gàidhlig supports an annual Colmcille grant scheme which specifically seeks to support projects that achieve the following:
• Promoting Gàidhlig and Irish use through the arts
• Using heritage to bring Gaelic-speaking communities together and raise the status of the Gaelic languages
• Bringing young speakers of Scottish and Irish Gaelic together through events or school projects
• Promoting dialogue and sharing of experiences and best practice between Scottish and Irish Gaelic speakers
• Supporting the learning of Irish Gaelic among Scottish Gaelic speakers

In Ireland Foras na Gaeilge, Colmcille opearates on a cross-border basis and has three grant schemes:
• The Colmcille Grant Scheme, for projects, which has two funding rounds per year
• The Colmcille small grant scheme for developing partnerships and projects, which is open continuously
• The Colmcille bursary scheme for Irish speakers learning Scottish Gaelic

Small Grants Programme 2023-2024

The Small Grants Programme has been set up to allow young people from Education Authority Youth Service (EAYS) registered and verified groups to apply for grants for projects to Support the Growth and Participation of young people.

The Small Grants Programme for 2023-2024 is to enable young people to apply for funding to support other young people in their communities to:

• Promote youth participation, leadership and volunteering

• Build and develop life skills

This year, there are two options. Groups can apply for a maximum of £500 for a one-off event or a maximum of £1500 for a group work programme with multiple sessions. All projects must demonstrate young people’s involvement in planning and delivery.

The closing date for applications is 20th October 2023.

Any applications received on or before 4th August will be assessed and notified by the end of August 2023. Any applications received after 4th August will be assessed and notified by the end of November 2023. All projects must be completed by 31st March 2024.

Small Events Grant 2023

The Ulster-Scots Agency has opened its Ulster-Scots Small Events Grants programme for 2023.

This fund supports events from 1 April to 31 December 2023, including Ulster-Scots events to celebrate the forthcoming Coronation in May.

The maximum grant available is £1,000 (minimum of £500) and this can be used to fund one or two events.

Groups must provide match funding of at least 10%. Support is available from the Ulster-Scots Community Network if groups require assistance with their submission.

Projects must bedelivered up to 31 December 2023 and groups should submit an application form at least one month before their planned event.

Please note: Funding is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until the fund is fully allocated.

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council: Policing & Community Safety Grants Programme

The Causeway Coast and Glens Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) Grants Programme has been designed to support, promote and develop community safety initiatives throughout the council area.  Causeway Coast and Glens Borough PCSP will fund up to a maximum of £5,000 for eligible projects. 

Scheme details

This is a rolling Fund and will remain open throughout the year. There will be regular assessment points, each with a deadline by which applications must be submitted in order to be considered for assessment in that period.

Purpose of Small Grant Programme

The PCSP small grants programme has been developed to provide organisations with up to a £999 grant to organise a project or event that will help prevent, reduce, address crime and help people feel safer in their own communities. 

Grant Amounts

Grants of up to £999 (Nine Hundred and Ninety Nine pounds) are available towards eligible costs and groups may be limited to one successful PCSP grant application per year depending upon the level of demand. Please Note: Successful applicants will be able to claim 100% up front before the start of the project and if requested by the Council Funding Unit, will need to provide proof of the expenditure if selected for audit. 

Early Intervention: Initiatives designed to reduce the risk of individuals, (especially young people aged up to 17 years) from the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area from coming into contact with the criminal justice system.

Alcohol, Drug & Substance Abuse: Working to achieve a reduction in alcohol, drug and substance abuse including prescription medication.

Anti-Social Behaviour: This encompasses a range of behaviours including noise, vandalism, graffiti, anti-social driving, or causing annoyance to people not in the same household.

Societal Abuse: Working to achieve a reduction of levels of physical, mental, financial and cyber abuse. Also includes working to increasing the levels of reporting of the abuse to PSNI and other support agencies.

Reducing opportunities for crime: Working to achieve a reduction in the opportunities to commit crime in rural and urban communities.

Fear of crime: Working to reduce the fear of crime in rural and urban communities and increase community confidence in policing.

Who Can Apply?

Organisations must be from within or operating within the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area. For the purposes of this programme, only formally constituted organisations which are not-for-profit that are open, accountable and representative of the geographical area which they service and which promote and enhance Community Safety can apply. Such as:

• Community and Voluntary organisations; This includes School, PTA’s, Churches, youth clubs, Social Enterprises etc.

2023/24 Central Good Relations Fund

The 2023/24 Central Good Relations Fund will open for applications on the 6th December 2022. To help groups apply for funding, the Executive Office will be hosting two ‘CGRF Online Funding Forums’ via Webex.

The forums will take place on: -

• Tuesday 6 December 2022 @ 11am

• Wednesday 7 December 2022 @ 3pm

The online forums will be a great way to find out more about the CGRF fund, and advice and guidance will be offered in relation to projects that could be delivered, the application form, and how to apply etc.

The online forums will last approximately 1hr and will also include a Q&A session where attendees can put specific questions to the panel. If you have a question/query that you would like the CGRF team to address on the day, please e-mail GoodRelationsFund@executiveoffice-ni.gov.uk by Monday 5 December 2022. About the Core Funding Scheme

The Core Funding Scheme provides support for organisations which are considered of strategic importance in promoting community relations work across Northern Ireland.

The scheme contributes towards salary and organisational running costs.

Be safe, be innovative, be brave

The Community Relations Council (CRC) appreciates that the organisations we support through all of our grant schemes have been facing many new challenges as a result of the current Covid-19 pandemic. Although many of you have come up with amazing ways of staying connected, it has become clear over the past months that the capacity of some organisations to deliver work programmes have been adversely affected by the necessary social restrictions in place to counter the spread of Covid-19. Given the most up-to-date information we anticipate the impact of the pandemic will continue over the coming months.

In light of the current, and, likely on-going challenges, the CRC would encourage grant applicants to explore innovative approaches that allow for delivery of good relations activities whilst taking account of the most up to date directives from government. The CRC fully understands that this is a time for innovation in the pursuit of new peace building initiatives and we want to support you to be at the forefront of these initiatives.

During this time it is vital that organisations clearly and explicitly incorporate the impact of Covid-19 restrictions into their grant applications. It will be important that applicants demonstrate in all relevant parts of their core funding application that they have considered the implications of the pandemic in drawing up safety measures/contingency plans for proposed project plans and budget proposals. Adherence to government guidance on Covid-19 is a condition of all grant awards. To allow you to experiment with approaches that may be new and in recognition of the uncertainty of these extraordinary times, the CRC is committed to being as flexible as is possible with organisations in relation to the delivery of planned activities. We will consider all reasonable and timely requests for alternative methods of project delivery and the related readjustments to approved budget lines. The Community Relations Council remains, as ever, committed to supporting organisations to deliver their projects in a timely and safe manner so be innovative and brave – our community needs your support.

The Ann McGeeney Fund

The fund is open to organisations with charitable purposes only.

Funding will be available to local community organisations that are planned and run for the benefit of refugees and asylum seeker communities in Northern Ireland to support integration into society.

The Fund welcomes applications from community and voluntary groups that address the following areas:

• Integration of ethnic minorities into communities with special emphasis on women within these communities

• Initiatives can include providing support to host communities in building social connections with arriving refugee families and refugees already residing within the areas above.

• And/or providing activities to arriving families and refugees already residing within the areas above, helping them build social bridges with the host community.

The fund will prioritise refugees and asylum seekers from Syria and/or Ukraine

Community organisations involved

It is envisaged the organisations will be ‘host community’ organisations i.e. predominantly run or attended by long term UK residents. It is also possible for organisations to be ‘refugee community’ organisations with an aim to include ‘host communities’ in their activities.

The funding will help those organisations support long-term integration, develop opportunities to contribute to community by reducing barriers and creating social connections.

What we will fund

Funded activities will:

• Be open to, and of interest to, reunited refugee families and refugees residing in Northern Ireland

• Community activities such as those listed below will be funded (for guidance only):

  • Joint activity workshops leading to a co-designed event

  • Family cooking sessions

  • Parent and child groups

  • Sports (including women only)

  • Arts and performing arts

  • Music

  • Hobby classes

  • Women’s wellbeing groups.

Grants will be available ranging from £1,000 to £2,000 for projects taking place within a 12 month period

The ESB Community Benefit Fund is open for 2023

The ESB Community Benefit Fund aims to support community projects which clearly address current and emerging local issues, needs and opportunities, while also seeking to develop and build upon existing initiatives. From equipment to refreshments for activities; from painting lessons to science books, you can apply for items that will help you address at least one of the following themes:

• Education and skills

• Health, safety, and wellbeing

• Environment and habitat conservation

• Energy efficiency and sustainability

• Culture and heritage

• Recreation, sport, and social inclusion

Who can apply?

• If you are a current recipient, you should submit your last claim by Tuesday 1 November. Unfortunately, we will not be able to take your application forward if this is not the case.

• If you have been unsuccessful before to the ESB Community Benefit Fund, an application from your organisation/group is welcome.

Community Relations / Cultural Diversity Small Grant Fund

Do you have an idea for a cross-community or cross-cultural project?  An event, video, conference, research?  Do you need funding for this activity?

Northern Ireland Community Relations Council (NICRC) will be delivering a funding clinic for community groups in Mid Ulster.  This will take place at The Junction, Beechvalley Way, Dungannon on Wednesday October 5th at 2pm. 

NICRC’s  Community Relations / Cultural Diversity | Community Relations Council (community-relations.org.uk) invites applications for projects that can be completed by March 31st 2023.  Closing date for applications is December 16th 2022.  Funding of up to £10,000 is available but it is more typical for £2,000- £3,000 for first application.

The workshop will last approximately 90 minutes and you will receive information about how to put together a successful application.

Good Relations Grant Aid Programme 2022-2023

Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Equality Act states that Public Authorities should promote good relations between people of different religious belief, political opinion and racial group. As part of this work the Council supports a Good Relations Grant Aid Programme with awards of up to £2,500 per application.

All projects MUST contain a substantial good relations element in keeping with the government’s 'Together: Building a United Community' (T:BUC) Strategy, which reflects the Executive’s commitment to improving community relations and continuing the journey towards a more united and shared society.

Applications must meet ALL of the following five measurable criteria; applicants who fail to demonstrate how their proposal meets any one of these will have their application rejected; the responsibility to provide sufficient detail in any application for Council's consideration rests with the applicant:

1. Demonstration of need –You must demonstrate that there is a need for your proposed project, and if so how has this been demonstrated? You should back up your answer using community surveys, public meetings, focus groups and/or external statistics such as PSNI Hate Crime or Neighbourhood statistics, community plans, local knowledge or history of poor community and race relations in your area.

2. Strategic Fit, Outputs and Outcomes - You must demonstrate clear realistic and measurable outputs and project level outcomes which complement one of the Together Building a United Community key priorities.

3. Benefits and Opportunities – You must demonstrate that this project will provide benefits and opportunities for people to improve their knowledge and understanding of Good Relations issues.

4. Financial viability –You must submit a secure financial proposal with a clear confirmation of “total” project costs. Your proposal must represent value for money. Please note that groups are not required to show evidence of match funding however where this has been demonstrated groups will be able to access additional points for showing efforts towards financial sustainability.

5. Inclusion –You must demonstrate that this project will promote inclusion and encourage people to play an active role in Good Relations.

The maximum award is £2500 and all expenditure must be incurred within the relevant financial year e.g. 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023.

National Lottery Grants for Heritage – £10,000 to £250,000

National Lottery Grants for Heritage allows to fund projects that connect people and communities to the national, regional and local heritage of the UK.

Using money raised by the National Lottery, the National Lottery Heritage Fund inspires, leads and resources the UK’s heritage to create positive and lasting change for people and communities, now and for the future.

National Lottery Grants for Heritage is an open programme for all types of heritage projects in the UK.

This guidance is for applications for grants from £10,000 to £250,000. It will tell you more about the programme and the types of project we can fund. 

Priorities up to the end of 2022–2023 financial year

The impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic means we will prioritise heritage projects that: 

• promote inclusion and involve a wider range of people (a mandatory outcome)

• boost the local economy

• encourage skills development and job creation

• support wellbeing

• create better places to live, work and visit

• improve the resilience of organisations working in heritage

Projects must achieve at least our inclusion outcome. In addition to our outcomes, all projects must also consider long-term environmental sustainability.

Things you need to know

• Requirements: your project must not start before we make a decision and it must focus on heritage in the UK.

• Deadlines for applications: there is no deadline so you can apply whenever you are ready.

• To consider: you can get advice on your project before you apply by submitting an optional Project Enquiry Form. See the Project Enquiry Form's questions.

• Assessment process: once we receive your application and all the correct supporting documents, we will assess your application and give you a decision in eight weeks. The assessment of our first few applications may take slightly longer than eight weeks as we transition back into our normal grant-giving cycle.

• Your contribution: for applications of £100,000 to £250,000 you must contribute at least 5% of your project costs.

Coca-Cola Thank You Fund

Now in its 12th year, the Coca‑Cola Thank You Fund was set up in 2011 to mark the 125th anniversary of the company.

Over the years, the Coca‑Cola Thank You Fund has supported projects including community, social and education programmes aimed at youth, healthy and active lifestyles and environmental leadership. To date €1,255,00 has been given to 121 non-profit organisations across the island of Ireland.

In 2022, Coca‑Cola will donate a further €100,000 to youth-orientated non-profit groups committed to support young people to build sustainable communities.

For the purposes of the Fund, young people are defined as those aged between 16 and 25 years of age.

In 2022, the Fund will focus on one overall theme – Investing in Sustainable Communities - enabling everyone to live in a community where economic and environmental sustainability as well as social equity is at its heart. The Fund will help to nurture a generation of change champions who will help to shape, create and maintain sustainable communities for the benefit of all.

Within this theme, the Fund is seeking applications which fall under one or more of the following three categories:

1.    EDUCATION
Educational, Training, Resilience, entrepreneurship programmes for young people

2.    DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

Programmes that support Diversity & Inclusivity and social equity among young people

3.    CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Programmes that encourage and support young people to care for and protect the environment
